New opt-out motorcycle helmet plan for Michigan bikers.
« on: June 06, 2008, 06:25:24 PM »

The plan would require riders to obtain a special permit costing $100 per year or $200 for three years. Applicants for the special permit would also have to be 21 years old and have two years of riding experience or undergone special training. The proposal is estimated to generate $25 million for the state's general fund.

How about another "special permit" to opt-out of the States seat belt law?
That should be worth at least $100 million to the States General fund.

How does paying a fee, make these safety devices unnecessary?

“hope” and “change”

I read in the Toledo Blade (of course) that Gov. Grandholm plans to veto it.
Michigan legislators really care about their motorcycle riders in this state.
It's all about the money to them greedy Bs.

the helmet law and seatbelt law seem ridiculous to me.  i can see how the govt is looking out for our safety, but that the key point, OUR safety.  we should decide if we want to wear a seatbelt or a helmet.  if people want to be dangerous and risk their lives, let them do it.  what harm does it bring to the state if someone dies riding without a helmet?  if anything, this fee would bring a lot of money into the economy.

Why should people pay the state to ride without a helmet? They don't care if you get killed without one. They are only interested in the money.
