Me thinks it may have something to do with it being summertime, where we usually have an influx of illegals doing seasonal work in our area. Maybe these guys are acting on tips that large numbers of illegals are headed our way in certain vehicles. I don't know but I'M glad they're out there.

my money says thats the reason...but who knows for sure.

I was driving south on I-75 and parked in the median is a Border Patrol cop car like it was looking for speeders or something. I'm like, WTF?

I am getting really annoyed by the increase in non-essential police activity.

Well, if you will notice, both of the Monroe County Sheriff Dept and the Monroe Police have been parking a lot lately to try and conserve gas which is eating up every dept budget.  Could this be the case also, plus also being visible?  Don't know, just throwing that out.

That CAN'T be the truth. It makes too much sense.

And we all know that truth is stranger than fiction.

Tough ****...My budget is taking a hit too... >:(

You know what really pisses me off about all of this, how many times have you gone to a store and seen a cop car running outside while the cop chats it up with the store clerk...How much gas has been WASTED in the past and now they want to conserve...???

Actually I don't think that they EVER shut the engine off. Even when refueling. It runs all the time. probably to keep the onboard computers running that they have in them now.

Not to worry.  When our fragile society degrades to civil unrest, all the local cops will be parked and at home, most likely hiding from all the people they have p.o'd and keep a low profile.  I see a mass sick out in the making.

Didn't that happen somewhere during a civil emergency recently?

It wouldn't take much damage to our infrastructure for there not to be any cops out there. Any extensive, long-term power outage would even keep the police from being able to refuel their cars to respond to anything (gas pumps are run off electricity). That came real close to happening with the blackout of 2003. A friend of mine who's a cop told me that we were about 8 hrs away from having no cops out there before the power was restored. Think about that, anyone who doesn't own a gun...

I’m more afraid of the cops……they’re the ones with the guns and the attitude.

Two-thirds of the police in New Orleans abandoned the force amid horrific conditions during Katrina and one guy said "The police got all the best stuff. They're crookeder than us," (Looting)

Not to mention that the police were killing people…..one was shot in the back:

Seven New Orleans police officers indicted for post-Katrina killings

I agree with FrenchFry... My cousin was a bully in school (real big a$$hole), Low and behold he became a police officer....  I'm waiting for him to get his butt jumped one day.  Officers if you're out here reading, Respect is EARNED- not just Given out cuz u carry a gun.  I'm sure there are a select few who are nice ones who don't have anything to prove and love thier jobs.
