sidewalks in town

Who is responsible for the sidewalks?  It's dangerous to walk in town unless you watch your feet constantly.  You could fall because of the unevenness of some of the sidewalks and then the glass laying around isn't safe either.

I've noticed a judicious lack of ANY sidewalks in Frenchtown Township.

How about a lack of or inconsistent sidewalks where there should be sidewalks?? For example, there needs to be a sidewalk constructed on the north side of s.custer and telegraph roads. I have lived in the area now for 5 years and nothing has been done. It is really dangerous to cross that intersection on a bike or even on foot because there is nothing on the corner where walgreens is. Quite pathetic indeed. ???

I have rarely seen sidewalks in any township setting LF.  Unless you happen to be in a subdivisioin.  My guess it has a lot to do with no curbing on most township roads, so sidewalks would be at street level and under water a lot.  But I sure would love to have some.  I do, by the way, live in Frenchtown.  No sidewalks was the number one thing I missed when we moved out of the City of Monroe.

That has to do with Walgreens and a bit of property west being in the township where sidewalks are not mandatory. If it were within the City limits, there would have had to be a sidewalk when it was built.

The opposite side of the street has a sidewalk that goes all the way to the elementary school.

I used to live on a lake in the Irish Hills.  It was beautiful, but there were no sidewalks and any decent shopping was a half hour away.  The gas prices are just killing people out there.

To me, places like Monroe and Adrian or even Manchester and Dundee are so much better.  I've always thought of sidewalks as an extension of my living room.

And I think that city sidewalk systems are a potential competitive advantage for SE Michigan's railroad-era towns.  These towns were built by people who knew what they were doing.  If only we had a decent regional bus or train system...

The opposite side of the street has a sidewalk that goes all the way to the elementary school.

The South side of S Custer Rd is entirely in the city limits until about Western Ave.  On the North side, there are 1-2 streets that are in Monroe Township along with a couple of parcels on S Custer, so they do not have to have sidewalks.  You will notice the same thing headed North on N Macomb St.  Sidewalk-no sidewalk-sidewalk-no sidewalk.

It is a shame that nothing can be done with it, whether it be the township or the city. Monroe needs more bike paths and sidewalks and less emphasis on auto travel.

Lots can be done, but people don't want to pay for the sidewalks to be installed. Just like schools, mass transit, health care...

You can't be serious? Every two or three years it seems the city has the sidewalks torn up for repair. At my house they came out and fixed the sidewalks then came out this year again and did the ramps over again. I would think the sidewalks were the best maintained in the country, lol.
I don't know where in the city you live but right in town  where the businesses are and the county and city buildings are, that is where I walk every night and see the unevenness, broken glass and weeds.  I will have to say that the last couple weeks I have seen someone out on the northside of Front st with a blower cleaning I guess their part of the sidewalk off.  "Good For You"!

The last time they had to do work on my street, the cost of sidewalk repair and replacement was left to the home owners to foot the bill... :P
