Gas prices are causing more travelers to ride passenger trains. Nationally, the number of people riding Amtrak surged 13.9 percent in July from a year earlier. Many trains are getting overcrowded, and a backlog of infrastructure problems stands in the way of expanded service.

I loved riding the trains in Germany.  They were always on time and very clean.

It's too bad that in this country we turned are trains into nothing more than a supply line for our consumption instead of transportation of people like the Europeans...Transportation by train in this country is more of a fad than any actual practical transportation...
