masc0t -

This kinda funny and you reminded me when you mentioned tee-ball.

There is a retirement community i pass on my way to work (I live out of state).  The other day the elderly residents (I guess they lived there) were in the field playing yep you guessed it tee-ball.  I watched for as long as I could.  It was so funny.  You should have heard them laughing.  The third base guy was in a wheelchair.  They had made there own bases with 2nd base being the pitchers mound.  I wish I could have watched it all.  They were loving it.

Not a bad idea for parks and recreation - Senior Tee-Ball.

Monroe guy hit the nail on the head. Recreation softball is for recreation, not blood and guts. The leagues already are shrinking. If you chase away all of us older, non-athletes you'll be left with no leagues at all.

I think I hurt someone's feelings. You were the one who said REAL athletes would welcome this change.  Real athletes play baseball not softball.

Sounds as though you are saying to hell with the older guys. These are the ones who built those fields for you to play on. Kick them out of the league and then all of the real athletes can play each other. Be careful though, it's gonna be boring with the same four teams in it.

I do have one serious question for you masc0t. If we ignore the safety factor when it comes to stealing bases, why is it so important to get the high performance bats out of the game?

I do remember The King and His Court. Those guys were phenominal. They had a pitcher that could pick runners off of first base when he led off!

Corky,

Yes, i did feel attacked.  But, I understand your point entirely.  I just thought it was a blast to finally get to steal.  Seriously, when I was there no one did it.  I really don't think people were even thinking about it because it's never been allowed.  I honestly don't think it would ever be excessive in any game because it's really not that easy to steal when you can't lead off.  It's actually pretty darn hard.

**  Whatever decision is made about this I'm fine with.  I love the game either way.

Oh and by the way, I'M NOT THAT YOUNG EITHER.   ;)  It's almost time for me to hang up my cleats.  :'

My Bad for "attacking" if i did. But yeah i see your point. It would be fun. But dangerous and it would take away the rest of the falling softball porgram in monroe.

If they do want to try stealing, they should do it on a league-by-league basis. Maybe some of the upper echelon leagues would want to try it and let the lower leagues keep things the way they are.

Niles, that sounds like a good idea. The problem with that IMO is umpires. It is hard enough for them to get two umps on the field all year long. Now you tell them there are different sets of rules for different leagues. Not a bad idea, just not probable in my opinion.

Whatever happened to the Chicago style slowpitch they were going to try in a league at Monroe? I believe that is where the ball is bigger, softer and the game is played without gloves.

We should have the High School Girls teach us how to fast pitch, then we can think about stealing
