Has it been a snoozer?
Are you hanging on every word?
Do you find it at all helpful.
Who would you declare the victor, and why?
Rate the McCain-Obama debate.

Off the record...

I'm surprised how well John McCain has done.

John McCain's ability in a town meeting or debate format is very much underestimated.  He is very good.  Here are some mid-debate observations...

McCain looks more comfortable.  Obama has a slight stutter that is annoying.  You can see the trademark McCain anger boil up every once in awhile.  Obama's eyes narrowed to a glare a few times.  In terms of visual impact, McCain is the winner.

Both men seem very knowledgeable.  I would feel comfortable with both men as president.  And given that one of the knocks on Obama is that he doesn't seem like a plausible president, this has to be a victory for Obama.

Obama seems more aggressive in going after McCain than vice versa.  I have to give McCain credit for not slamming back.

McCain is doing well. I don't like the smiles while Obama is speaking. Obama isn't doing bad, either. He seems on the defensive. He did give it good when explaining the commitment of the President vs. the decisions by Generals on the ground. I cracked up when he said "orgy of spending" in Washington. Both seemed to flounder when it came to explaining how their administrations would be affected by the tough financial times we are facing.

I agree with your last line, marilyn.  I don't think either man really knows what the consequences of the current crisis will be.

McCain has a wooden hand-gesture thing that's always bothered me.

Neither candidate answered the questions directly. The "what would you cut in light of this financial crisis" question didn't go anywhere.

McCain dropped names like he was going out of style. Obama couldn't objectively shut down any of Mccain's mis-statements.

In short, a wash. Both candidates obviously made their supporters happy, but I suspect most undecideds are still undecided.

Fairly even, I thought. I thought McCain came across as having a better understanding, and came out on top.

I guess that is from the damage he received as a P.O.W.

McCain gave a nice travelogue of names and places, so I guess he still has his memory, but overall I'd say it was a draw. Maybe if McCain didn't have a dingbat for a running mate, his performance might have helped him.

We'll see how she fairs in debate against Biden. She surely isn't a dingbat. She may crush us all here in debate.

McCain was the first to go negative as usual.

And his assertions, as usual, were false and misleading.

I thought McCain was rude as well…..If I were Obama I would have made history by b*tch slapping the old coot….but that’s just me.

Well, I suppose that if you're a republican, then you would say that Mccain won,  but you liberals will say that Obama won the debate. I will tell you what I did while watching it.  Unfortunately I got so disgusted with Mccain and how he kept smirking when Obama was speaking that I just turned the TV off. I also wondered what that blood on the side of his face was (Mccains') as it was very distracting.
Obviously Senator Obama was the one with the higher intelligence as he is a lawyer and Senator Mccain was a POW.  That would not qualify him for the position of the presidency. SO  I say that Obama won by a few points.

Yeah right. The only way she'd defeat me in a debate is because I'd be distracted by her boobs or her nylon clad legs...beyond that, nah.
