Accident at Telegraph & Dunbar Rd
« on: October 07, 2008, 01:00:41 PM »

So there has been yet another accident at Telegraph and Dunbar Rd. It involves a school bus of all things....How long does it take for the local officials to push for a left turn light at this intersection? Is it going to take a bus load of hurt or god forbid dead children on a bus to get things moving? If you travel in that area I say we need to speak up for our safety as well as the safety of others.

I heard the sirens.  I wondered what it was this time.  :( :(

A schoolbus and what?  And, when did it happen?

I know they say that Telegraph and Stewart is the worst intersection in the county...

but I am always more nervous going through at Dunbar than I am Stewart :( :( :(

I heard sirens just before 1:00 if memory serves. I hope no one was seriously hurt, and the bus was empty of students.

Excuse my ignorance and don't mistake it for cynicism when it is truly genuine concern. What's the issue at Dunbar and Telegraph? I drive through there (at least) twice a day and have never had a problem (other than North-bound drivers going 10-15 mph under the speed limit from Albain to Dunbar).

I think the bus was involved with some sort of work truck. It looks like the bed has those tool type boxes that you can axcess from the sides. The passenger front of the bus is pretty well hit. I didn't see any kids get off the bus wither so that is some sort of relief. The sad part about it is I know when I've heard an accident out there.

It is nearly impossible to make a left onto Telegraph from Dunbar at times. I have spent many times waiting three lights to turn onto NB Telegraph.

That intersection has needed a turn light ever since I went to high school, I graduated in '88... :P

Do you think the new 7th street expansion will alleviate some of the traffic there? Maybe this will resolve some of the problem. ???

I seriously doubt it. If I'm not mistaken the expansion goes to the high school, not all the way to Herr Rd. That would only help with school traffic. Dunbar/Telegraph traffic can be bad at any time of the day. They are just two important routes, East-West and North-South. Combine that with traffic from businesses at the corners and it is just chaos at times.  Turn arrows would help tremendously.

If you just go north and south on Telegraph it's not as bad...  but you do need to watch for drivers getting impatient turning off Dunbar due to backups...

There are no left turn lights which kind of surprised me when they redid the intersection a few years ago :( :( :(

UGHHH I HATE THAT!  For everyone that doesnt know, the speed limits are 55 mph south of dunbar, 45 north of dunbar.

I dont think its as bad turning left from dunbar headed southbound, but it can get pretty backed up, especially after a train, if ur trying to turn left headed northbound from dunbar.

I think a left turn light from dunbar onto telegraph would be beneficial. i dont think one is needed for telegraph turning onto dunbar tho.

Gosh You are old!!! J/K (I'm not much further behind don't feel bad). I think that too many drivers are not paying attention to the road. I was almost rear ended turning left off of Telegraph rd into a drive. If I get into the left turn lane I can be ticketed because technically I shouldn't be there. So I decided one day to make the left from the travel lane on S bound Telegraph (right before the second lane is merging into a single lane). My blinker was on when I noticed something in my rearview mirror. There was one of the old Ford Aerostars hauling a** not paying attention when he cut off another car to avoid hitting me. He turned his steering wheel so hard I thought his van was going to flip. I don't even question anymore when I see multiple police cars on the corner trying to bust people.

you are mistaken ;) it goes straight to herr rd. then u make a right onto herr rd and go down a little further to the hs. the road comes down right next to the horse's fenced in area there
