With the decline of the economy and the thousands of people that have lost, and will be loosing their job - where does your employee loyalty lay?   How secure do you feel if your employee says your job is not on the line?

I think even the Employer's jobs are on the line in the form of bankruptcies. 

Loyalty? Depends on what you mean by that. 

Should you feel guilty if a seemingly more secure position comes up and you consider taking it?  Is that considered disloyal? 

No more disloyal as the day when the Employer comes in, hating that he has to lay off a good employee, but is considered "only business".

I think people have to try and make the best decisions they can with the best intentions.

I was wondering more along the lines of maybe more are you still loyal to the duties of the job.  Do you still your all?  What if you knew you were being let go on a future date - would you still go in dedicated to the company and do the best job you could?

I've been doing this same job for over 35 years.  I go into work every day knowing what needs to be done and I do it.  I have had many supervisors over the years that are totally a waste of human flesh.
I will continue to do my job for 10 more days . . after that, they can take this job and shove it!

CC I think Erie Maid said it best.   you go into the job doing the best job you can everyday till you leave the job.  After you leave it, they can take this job ansd shove it as the song goes.

I've been self-employed my entire life, so I have had a real a$$hole for a boss (me!).  Because of that, no matter what kind of work I'm doing, I always do the best job I can.  Gotta make my boss happy!  My customers appreciate it (usually).

As an Employer, I appreciate loyalty in my employees.  Sure, if they get a better job offer, I don't hold it against them if they take the job - they have to look out for themselves.

But beware - the grass may look greener on the other side of the fence, but you haven't seen your neighbor's water bill, either!

I guess my answer to this would be yes.  I would.  I have. 

I have only ever left a position with advance notice by my own choosing; and although there is always that feeling of "short timer's attitude" that you fight when a new road is staring you in the face, I think I DID stay plugged in completely until I left.   In fact, I continued to to take calls for months from the person who I trained and continued to help her with questions.  (There was a lot for her to learn)

here my loyalty lies. if i won the lotto, i would certainly help to keep this place open to ensure that the others may retire at retirement age. and would not leave this place no matter what kind of money was offered to me from someone else.

It's a frustrating economy right now for "loyal" employees.

I think even with the struggling economy, employees are still very loyal to their employer. Monroe County has a very strong work ethic.

I think employees are more loyal now, BECAUSE of the struggling economy.  They don't want to lose their jobs, so they may go the extra mile for their boss, and their company.

This week's news is that Caterpillar announces a cut of 20,000 employees.  Sprint-Nextel cutting 8,000.  Home Depot eliminating 7,000.  GM @ 2,000 in MI & OH. 

Yes, employees BETTER show their loyalties in bright vivid colors on their sleeves with huge, happy smiles. 

It's 10:30pm and I'm working at home on some "extra mile" cost cutting reports for my boss.   Fortunately, I love what I do.
