Who Is Reading The Big Read 2008 Book?
« on: April 21, 2008, 06:37:02 AM »

Is anyone reading To Kill a Mockingbird again? or for the first time?  I know I had to read it in school but it is just as good this time around too.  :D

I just read it for the first time, it was fantastic. So much better than I was expecting.

Yes I read it.  I think it was way better this time around.  There is something to be said for choosing to read a book vs having to read a book.  I didn't remember half of the stuff!

Anywho, I previously posted a link to the Big Read calendar of events
http://monroetalks.com/forum/index.php?topic=4646.0

And tomorrow is the panel discussion.  Some really good panelists too  :D

I hope to make drop in on a book club discussion.  I've been bothered that Atticus lets "well they don't know any better" be everyone's excuse.  But then I wonder "maybe he has working to affect change as a legislator and Scout didn't know what he did so it wasn't included in the book.

???

That's one of my very favorite books, ShorTea!! Excellent book, excellent movie... an unusual combination! I'm glad you enjoyed it, too!  :)

You should read this book.  It is one of my all time favorites.  I think I like it more each time I read it.  In fact after I am done with Kite Runner I think  will read it again myself.

Book has very powerful themes and is still relevant today.  Watched the movie for the 1st time yesterday and it followed the book pretty closely.  Major difference in the movie is the focus of the movie was Atticus and the book was Scout.

That is bad, I bet it has been 23 years since I read it.  May have to read it again just to ejoy it this time.  I was forced too back then.

I read the book and went to the play.  I can relate to what the kids were going through - my neighbor's were weirdo's too.
