Title: A PREEMIE DEER
Post by: zard0z on October 15, 2008, 01:03:16 PM
This tiny deer was delivered by Caesarean section at a wildlife hospital after his mother was killed by a car.

Little Rupert, who is so small he can fit in an adult's
hand, was born after vets failed to save his mother.

At just six inches tall and weighing just over a pound, he is now in an incubator in the intensive care unit at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Buckinghamshire.
He has only recently opened his eyes.
Les Stocker, founder of Tiggywinkles, said: Rupert's mother had very severe injuries.
We brought him out and got him breathing and then he went into an incubator on oxygen. He is now being fed by a tube.

Staff are optimistic Rupert, now five days old, will make a full recovery.
Deer are very, very tricky but this one has spirit. He's extremely feisty little guy and quite pushy.

Cool! That means the population will be up a little more next year (add one). Unfortunately, with the baiting ban in place, I think there will be many more auto-deer fatalities ahead than in previous years.

If anyone else has troubles, I'll look into moving the source...

I seen this email.  It isn't a white or black tail deer, most likely a dwarf or some exotic kind of deer.

Yeah, I guess we can give him a few years.  I like my meat gamey anyway.

I read this thread from start to finish and read Funroes post above and it made my heart sink.  Poor baby deer.    Sooo sad that he didnt survive.   :'(
