Rattlesnake

According to DNR, there are Massasauga Rattlesnakes in Monroe County.

Has anyone here ever seen one?

I know they are illegal to mess with or pursue, just wondering if anyone has spotted one in the county. I haven't.

I want to run into one! Without getting bit, that is.

Some people confuse them with the Eastern Fox Snakes. The Eastern Fox snake has a similiar pattern, but there are brown and tan. Also, when the Fox snake is alarmed it rattles its tail like a rattlesnake, which sounds like a rattle when done on leaves, or in a bucket. The Eastern Fox snake is also illegal to touch or pursue, being on the threatened species list and all.

Oh yeah we have had several spider convos on this board.  You should see the pic I posted of this frozen one that was on my fromt door step.  I think its in the what creeps you out or something like that thread.
I am glad a guy stepped up and said spiders freak them out too.

I don't know what they are, but I've seen some pretty large snakes swimming in the creek, they seem nasty so I leave them alone.

OMG....There are rattlesnakes here?? And on top of that I can't even shoo it away?  I am not happy about this.  >:(

Speaking of snakes did anyone see the pic that was going around of that GIANT snake that was caught in an electric fence? I received it in an e-mail and Snoped it, and they said it was true. Scary!

Those would be Northern Water Snakes. They are not venomous, but they are very aggressive if messed with. I've been bit!  :P

There are rattlesnakes in Michigan, and according to DNR even in Monroe County, but the odds of you seeing one is very very rare. The Massassuaga perfers swampy areas. You may see one out in the refuges of Pt.  Mouillee.

I have lived in Michigan all my life...  the last 25 years in Monroe County...   I'm an outdoor person, do some hunting (not as much as I used to)....  and I have never seen a rattlesnake in Michigan...  But, I would not ever go out without the thought that I could run into one at any time....
