Response - Jeff Stergalis made a name for himself at Dearborn Fordson. Now he is at Riverview, his alma mater. He will built the program back to where it once was.

Question - i don't like the turf. bedford has a nice stadium. monroe has a bad setup going from stands to concessions, but some nice natural grass.

Question - I think CC, Airport, and Summerfield make the playoffs for sure and that Jefferson, Carlson are probably's and Bedford a possibility. Even at 5-4 cc would probably get in, but I don't think they will lose 4 games. What do you think?I am just trying to keep the chat going. What time does it end?
Response - Carlson was 6-3 last year and will be in a tougher league. CC probably would make it at 5-4. Chat should end about 9:30, depending on how many questions we are getting.

Question - Do any schools in the county have a field without a track around it?
Response - Whiteford does not. Ida has a track around the field but it is not in use. Summerfield has a track around the field but uses a newer track at the high school.

Response - Bill Kuehnlein used to ride the horse at big games. It was a great addition when it came galloping onto the field, with Bill in full Trojan fighting gear. I'm not sure if he has retired.

Question - I noticed Mychal Hand is playing football at Dundee. Did he play last year?How come the wrestlers at Dundee don't go out for football?
Response - Hand was on the team last year but had some injuries. He should be one of the county's top offensive guards and also plays the line on defense. He will be Dundee's best lineman.

Response - I look forward to seeing one of our teams in the state finals. We haven't won a state championship since Jefferson in 1994. During the regular season, you have Whiteford-Summerfield, SMCC-Jefferson, Monroe-Bedford, Ida-Dundee and SMCC-Airport.

Response - Sand Creek lost almost everything from last year's TCC champion. They're still the favorite because people are going with a proven winner. SC has won the last five league titles. Keep an eye on Derek Benschoter.

Question - Monroe must not have depth in the lineman. They look tiny and I noticed they have 3 sophomore linemen on the varsity. That is almost unheard of at Monroe with the sophomore offensive linemen. Do you still think they will beat Adrian? Adrian has I think 4 returning offensive line starters returning.
Response - I picked Monroe to beat Adrian in a close game. If the line can make some holes, Monroe has the backs to do some damage.

Question - What do u think of the Gilstorff kid from summerfield, I was at the scrimmage and that kid layed some people out!
Response - A junior who is a linebacker and tight end. He's physical and has been on the team since he was a freshman. He's also a basketball letterman and probably will be Summerfield's best pitcher in the spring.

Question - Do you think Jobe from Ida made the right decision playing college basketball? I think he would have been an excellent college defensive football player if he focused on the sport.
Response - He was a very good football player, but his heart is with basketball. I don't think he would have been happy playing football.

Response - Mike Pannone of SMCC is a defensive back who was special mention all-state last year. Special mention means he received at least two votes but didn't make the first team.

Question - Did Aaron Roelfs from Mason pan out at Iowa. That kid could play and really throw the ball.
Response - Roelfs was one of the most exciting QBs we've had here, a great runner-passer and leader. He took Mason to the state semis. He went to Iowa but I think he only was there a year.

Response - Gary Price was the best lineman I ever saw. When Flat Rock played in the state title game in 1977, Dave Steffen caught the eye of everyone watching. Eric Wilson of Monroe and Chris Morris of Bedford were big-timers.

Question - Yeah, Bedford must be doing something different this year, they have three WR/DL (Shock, Brad Swank and Brandon Billmaier) and then a few RB/DL (Steve Rowland and Mike Brooks). They also have the QB that is a LB in Nathan Crooks. I've never seen that many people playing, what on paper, seems 'out of position' on the same team.
Response - We'll see how things shake out for Bedford when the season gets rolling.

Response - I never saw the 1962 Monroe team, but I know Dan Lewis was the QB and Willie Jones was a running back along with Ed Hudson.

Question - Wasnt Blaine Modrowski of Mason the defensive player of the year a few years back till he hurt himself during the summer? How would he have ranked in your opinion?
Response - Modrowski was never the player of the year. He hurt himself diving into Lake Erie before his senior year and missed Erie Mason's state title in 1987.

Response - Ron Spears and Jessie Walker of Milan were great runners. Bob DeMarco of Monroe was a great passer. Adam Servey of Jefferson was a hard-nosed runner. Carl Ford of Monroe was an all-around athlete.

Question - OK, so this is a bit random as well. But I noticed several interesting positions for players that play two ways. IE a WR/DL and a QB/LB are these kids special athletes, or just a sign that body size is not indicative of position anymore?
Response - Not many quarterbacks are linebackers. Not because they can't, but it risks an injury. A don't know of a wide receiver who is playing the D line.

Question - How do you see the Chickeral kid doing at Flat Rock?
Response - This will be his third year as a starter. Flat Rock seldom throws the ball, but he does a good job within the system.

Question - Have you heard the long standing rumor about Jack Giarmo coming to Monroe after winning a state championship at CC? If so, do you think Jack will be offered and accept the position?
Response - I have heard this rumor manytimes. No. 1, he would have to win a state title. No. 2, what happens to Monroe coach Steve Pollzzie? I don't see Jack leaving SMCC after the way he has built that program.

Question - Which player do you see coming up as a surprise, either from the junior levels last season, or a reserve that is in the line-up now?
Response - Here's an answer from way out in left field. Kyle Ready of Carlson is a 6-5, 250-pound sophomore who is a man-child. It may take him a while to develop, but he's strong and athletic.

Question - What team do you see as the most likely to be improved this season?
Response - Good question. I would go with Dundee, which was 3-6 last year. Whiteford also was 3-6 and has some great athletes.

Question - Week one, which local game should be the best to attend for the fans?
Response - Bedford at Airport has to be No. 1. Detroit Crockett is at SMCC. Both are Friday night. Monroe plays Adrian at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastern Michigan.

Question - Chances of Jodeci Mays leading the county in rushing?
Response - He should have a very good year. Airport usually has one main rusher, unlike SMCC and some of the other schools. Mays had over 600 yards last year and Eric Redmond says he has looked very good.

Question - Which Schools do you see making the playoffs?
Response - SMCC can make a long playoff run, but first it has to qualify. It has tough games with Detroit Crockett, Divine Child, Airport and Jefferson. Airport has qualified the last 10 years and should be in again. Jefferson, Milan and Summerfield have good shots. I'd love to see New Boston Huron make it for the first time.

Question - In your preview section you say that quarterback is a position of strength for the county. How do you see the QBs stacking up
Response - There are many good ones. If you're looking for passing, Andrew Mayrand of Huron, Mike Hewitt of Summerfield and Daniel Bolster of Dundee all passed for more than 1,000 yards last season. If you want running quarterbacks, there are Michael Howey of SMCC and Mike Oley of Jefferson. Daniel Jones of Airport is a smart, all-around QB along with Billy Hochradel of Monroe.

Question - What do you think about Monroe joining the SEC this season?
Response - It's going to be very interesting. Monroe is going from a power league (Mega Red) to a finesse league where passing is stressed. The SEC is going to be very strong this year. There are at least four Big Ten recruits already.
